Recycled Wool & Wool

Recycled Wool & Wool

Wool is one of the most functional materials available. It offers exceptional warmth even in damp conditions, effectively wicks away moisture, and features natural properties that resist dirt and unpleasant odors.

As a sustainable material, wool is gentle on the environment. Its production consumes less water and energy compared to many other materials, and it is 100% biodegradable, meaning it doesn’t contribute to microplastic pollution.

The merino wool used in our base layers is certified by Woolmark and is guaranteed to be mulesing-free.

Most of Varg’s wool products are crafted from recycled wool. Recycled wool fabrics often include synthetic fibers to bind and strengthen the material. Recycled wool is sourced from old garments, which are then carded and processed into new yarn. This approach reduces water, energy, and chemical use, and helps minimize waste.

Our recycled wool qualities are produced in Italy by a manufacturer certified with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and who provides a declaration for mulesing-free wool.

A garment made from our wool blend will keep you warm and offer excellent comfort, thanks to its breathable fibers. Even if it gets a bit damp, wool will continue to keep you warm.

Proper care and maintenance of your garment are crucial to extending its lifespan and maintaining its durability. Dirt, excessive wear, and damage can affect the material’s longevity.

Wool

Wool is naturally dirt and odor-resistant, so frequent washing isn't necessary. Instead, regularly air out your wool garments and spot-clean by hand when needed. This preserves the fibers, conserves water and energy, and helps prevent microfibers from polluting our waterways.

Proper care is key to extending the lifespan of your wool garments. Dirt, excessive wear, and damage can all affect the material’s durability.

Pilling is a normal occurrence with natural fibers like wool. Gently remove pills by hand or with a wool comb, available here at Varg, and dispose of them in the trash.

Our 100% merino wool base layers may shrink naturally by 1-2 cm in length after the first wash.

If washing is necessary, use the wool program on your machine with cold water (30°C). Protect your garments by washing them in a bag, like the Guppyfriend, which is available here at Varg. After washing, collect any microfibers from the bag and dispose of them in the trash—never rinse them out.

Choose a biodegradable and fluorocarbon-free detergent, like the Organotex products we offer at Varg. Wool-specific detergents are ideal, and avoid using fabric softeners.

Never tumble dry wool. Instead, lay the garment flat on a towel or hang it gently to dry.

  • Wool program, cold water, 30°C. Do not bleach. Do not iron. Do not tumble dry, instead flat dry or gentle hang dry. Do not wring. Avoid enzyme washing powder.
