Recycled Wool & Wool
Wool is one of the most functional materials available. It offers exceptional warmth even in damp conditions, effectively wicks away moisture, and features natural properties that resist dirt and unpleasant odors.
As a sustainable material, wool is gentle on the environment. Its production consumes less water and energy compared to many other materials, and it is 100% biodegradable, meaning it doesn’t contribute to microplastic pollution.
The merino wool used in our base layers is certified by Woolmark and is guaranteed to be mulesing-free.
Most of Varg’s wool products are crafted from recycled wool. Recycled wool fabrics often include synthetic fibers to bind and strengthen the material. Recycled wool is sourced from old garments, which are then carded and processed into new yarn. This approach reduces water, energy, and chemical use, and helps minimize waste.
Our recycled wool qualities are produced in Italy by a manufacturer certified with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 and Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and who provides a declaration for mulesing-free wool.
A garment made from our wool blend will keep you warm and offer excellent comfort, thanks to its breathable fibers. Even if it gets a bit damp, wool will continue to keep you warm.
Proper care and maintenance of your garment are crucial to extending its lifespan and maintaining its durability. Dirt, excessive wear, and damage can affect the material’s longevity.

Follow care instructions to keep your garment clean, protect the fabric, and extend its lifespan.
Wash sparingly – air out your wool garments regularly and spot-clean by hand when needed. This preserves the fibers, saves water and energy, and reduces microfiber release.
Pilling – small pills are completely normal for natural fibers like wool, especially in areas exposed to friction (e.g., underarms or sides). Pilling does not mean the garment is defective or damaged. Gently remove pills by hand or with a wool comb (available in our webshop).
Shrinkage – 100% merino wool base layers may shrink 1–2 cm in length after the first wash.
Machine wash – use a wool program with cold water (30°C) and a very low spin/centrifuge to protect fibers. Wash garments in a bag, like the Guppyfriend (available in our webshop), to protect fibers and collect microfibers. Dispose of collected fibers in the trash.
Detergent – use a biodegradable, fluorocarbon-free wool detergent, such as OrganoTex BioCare Wool & Down Wash (available in our webshop). Do not use fabric softener.
Drying – never tumble dry. Lay flat on a towel or hang gently to dry, reshaping the garment as it dries.
