Recycled Wool & Wool
Wool is one of the most functional materials we know. It provides excellent warmth even in damp conditions, wicks away moisture, and has natural properties that counteract dirt and bad odors.
Wool is a sustainable material that is gentle on the environment. The production of wool uses less water and energy compared to many other materials. It is 100% biodegradable and does not contribute to microplastic pollution.
The merino wool we use in our base layers is certified by Woolmark and guaranteed to be mulesing-free.
The majority of Varg's wool products are made from recycled wool. Wool fabrics made from recycled wool often also contain synthetic fibers to bind the fibers together and make the fabric stronger. Recycled wool is collected from old garments, which are then carded and processed into new yarn. Using recycled wool offers environmental benefits through reduced use of water, energy, and chemicals, and also helps to reduce waste volumes.
Our qualities of recycled wool are made in Italy by a producer who is certified with OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, Global Recycled Standard (GRS), and provides a declaration for mulesing-free wool.
A garment made from our wool blend will ensure you stay warm and also offers fantastic comfort, thanks to its breathable fibers. If you get a bit damp, no worries—the wool will still keep you warm.

First and most importantly, do not wash your clothes too often. Instead, air out the product and remove spots by hand. By doing this, you will save water and energy, and prevent microfibers from leaking.

Wool is one of the best functional material that we know of. It is natural dirt and odor resistant so garments in wool should not be washed so often. Instead air the garment once in a while. If washing too often the wool fibers are worn down.
Natural fibers pills. Make sure to take care of your garment by removing these fibers continuously by hand or with a wool comb and throw the fibers in the trash.
Our 100% merino wool base layers naturally shrink 1-2 cm on the length when first washed.
Wash your product on a gentle program, preferably a wool program, in cold water, at 30°C.
Use a washing bag to protect your garments and to prevent fibers from leaking out into our lakes and oceans. You can buy the Guppyfriend washing bag here at vargclothes.com. Make sure to wipe the microfibers from the bag and throw them in the trash, never rinse them out.
Use a biodegradable and fluorocarbon-free detergent, such as the Organotex detergents we have for sale at Varg. These are ideal for washing your products. If possible, choose a wool detergent. Do not use softener.
Do not tumble dry. Instead, dry flat on a towel or gently hang to dry.
- Machine wash cold, maximum 30 degrees. Choose a wool program or gentle program. Do not bleach. Do not iron. Do not tumble dry, instead flat dry or gentle hang dry. Do not wring. Avoid enzyme washing powder.
